Homemade Chex mix has always been my kryptonite. This recipe has been a wonderful replacement for the normal high-carb tasty snack. Using mixed nuts, bits of pork rinds, cheese crisps, and the seasoned buttery sauce has all the flavor and crunch, without the guilt.
Party Snack
With the holidays coming up, I highly recommend you try this recipe out! This recipe is requested by my family every time we have a party or family get-together. It is an amazing snack for parties or even for an evening salty snack with your glass of wine.
Main Ingredients
- Mixed Salted Nuts- (I prefer this one– Cashews, Pecans, Hazelnuts, and Almonds)
- If you prefer less salt, you can use the unsalted Mixed Nuts
- You can also unsalted, if you prefer
- Pork Rinds- I prefer this brand because they are not too hard and not too soft. They are a perfect crispiness so that you can easily break them and not crumble into dust.
- Cheese Crisps- I buy the large bag from Sams Club. I have even used different flavors, but the Parmesan seems to be our favorite.
- Butter- You can use your favorite butter of choice. I do prefer Kerry Gold… But I always use whichever I have easily at hand.
- Worcestershire Sauce- I only buy Lea & Perrins, but you can try whatever brand you have.
- Hot Sauce- Cholula’s is what my family loves, but you can use your favorite here.
- If you prefer to not have any spice- You can completely omit. I don’t think it adds a lot of spiciness, but more spice flavor.
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Salt (you can add more if you are using unsalted butter and unsalted nuts)
Need to be Dairy Free?
This recipe can be made dairy-free too! Which will please and impress your Paleo friends.
Instead of butter, use Ghee. I make my own ghee, but you can buy store-bought also. Instead of the Cheese crips, add more pork rinds or nuts to offset the difference.
